A message from the General Manager
Dear Members,
I have now been back at the Association for three weeks and I thought it would be timely to provide you with an update on what been happening during this period.
Firstly, I would like to sincerely thank all players, coaches, umpires, scorers and volunteers on their hard work and efforts for the season so far. With extreme weather conditions, staff changes in our office, the National Youth Championships, the Claxton Shield series and a number of other events, it has not been easy to remain focused on putting in great performances both on and off the field.
For those that don’t know me, I have come back to baseball in Victoria after starting my working career as a trainee with the Victorian Baseball Association in 1994. I have since gone back to study and had the wonderful opportunity to experience a number of other areas of Victorian and Australian sport. I hope to bring those experiences and the knowledge gained back to baseball.
I consider my appointment as the General Manager of Baseball Victoria to be a privilege. The opportunity to lead the sport of baseball in our great state was the main factor for coming back from South Australia. I hope that my knowledge of baseball and in particular Victorian baseball will hold me in a good position to serve the members, affiliates and our National body. I have also taken the time to chat with our staff and Directors on their visions for us and I’ll continue to work with them, along with our many stakeholders, to formulate a sustainable and exciting future.
I have four basic aims that I hope to achieve while in this role. The success of these aims will require the leadership and direction from Baseball Victoria, as well as the support of our members.
1. Support the clubs and Associations to achieve their aims
2. Develop recruitment and retention strategies
3. Rejuvenate our high performance programs
4. Strengthen our relationship with the ABF and delivery of National programs
In the coming months, the Directors and I will provide further details of our strategic direction and the steps we hope to implement to ensure baseball can become better than it already is. My commitment to you as your new General Manager is that I will run an organisation that has a club first ethic and not one based around individual gain, and that we will plan for future success and we will stick to that plan.
There will be some exciting and innovative changes taking place in the near future and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
Brett Hidson
