Hot on the heels of the announcement with regard to Bendigo, Baseball Victoria today announces further expansion of its development team, this time into Latrobe Valley. With the full support of Sale, Traralgon, Morwell, Moe/Newborough and Churchill Baseball Clubs, as well as the Latrobe Valley Baseball Association (LVBA) the new position of Baseball Development Coordinator – Latrobe Valley, has been established

“Like Bendigo, Latrobe Valley is a traditionally strong baseball community”
“We will be working hard with the clubs and the association to position baseball at the forefront of people’s choices when it comes to junior and community level sport”.  Baseball Victoria's Development Manager Ben Utting said.

LVBA President, Glenice Mumford was equally enthused.

“It was a unanimous decision by the association and the five clubs to support the BDC concept. We will work together to find the right person and then to provide them all the support they need to be successful in the role. If they are successful in the role, it will be a positive result for baseball in the valley”.  She said.

By the time the BDC Latrobe Valley is appointed, Baseball Victoria will have situated 10 BDCs across the state. At the time of writing the team consists of Dean Marnell (Melb – CW), Shaun Fahy (Melb – S), Grant Karlsen (Melb – E), Ryan Booth (Melb – NW), Chris Law (Ballarat), Nathan Holmes (Geelong), Nathan Ford (Goulburn Valley), James Sanders (Melb – SE) and with Bendigo, along with Latrobe Valley, to be filled. Each of the BDCs works with clubs and schools to develop the sport at grassroots levels with a particular emphasis on creating links between the schools and the clubs. BDCs also provide courses in coach and umpire education, as well as club development assistance.

Baseball Victoria is also delighted to announce further expansion of its development team. In association with Bendigo Baseball Association, as well as Bushrangers, Scots, Dodgers, East and Falcon clubs, the new position of Baseball Development Coordinator – Bendigo, has been established.

As part of Baseball Victoria’s plans to more aggressively attract players to the great sport of baseball, the role will work with the above mentioned clubs, as well as schools of the greater Bendigo region to promote and profile baseball, and to attract people to the sport through a variety of first class programs and opportunities. Development Manager Ben Utting is looking forward to filling the role and working with the new person to improve the state of baseball in Bendigo. “Bendigo has a great tradition in baseball and a really strong foundation with some great people. We will need to work hard with the BDC and the clubs to offer great baseball opportunities and attract the kids to the sport. Once they give it a go, they will soon realize what a great sport it is and they’ll be hooked”, he said.
