Baseball in Victoria is played within two seasons - Summer and Winter.

Summer competitions and activities are conducted during the months between October and March. Baseball Victoria's Summer League (BVSL) is the state's premier baseball club competition. Competition games are generally played within the metropolitan areas of Melbourne. 

The Summer League consists of competitions for Men, Women, Masters and Juniors.

The Summer League Club v Club competition is played at a variety of standards. Clubs are ranked on the performances of their most Senior team and fixtured against clubs within the same divisions. Competition matches are generally played within the metropolitan areas of Melbourne.

The men can't have all the fun! Commencing in the summer season of 1994/95, Women's Baseball is now played by Clubs in three divisions in the summer. Baseball Victoria also stages under-aged girls activities. While this is the case, Baseball Victoria strongly encourage girls and boys to play together at least until they are too old for the Under 14 baseball competitions.

Masters' Baseball runs from October to March each year on a Monday or Tuesday night. To participate, a player shall be a minimum of 38 years as at 1st November, and must be at least 40 years to pitch in a game. The rules have been modified to assist those whose arms and legs may not be as good as they used to be. Whether you've been playing baseball for all your life or you've only ever been good enough to dream of being a Major League star, there is a team for you to play in. Competition matches are generally played within the metropolitan areas of Melbourne and a weekly double header is usually played at Melbourne Ballpark, Altona.

Within the Under 12 and 14 age groups, there are a number of BVSL Junior Area Centres and Club Leagues that are held usually Friday nights. The Centres and Leagues are usually the first introduction for children and parents into baseball. Centres are competitions including a few clubs within close proximity while Club Leagues are competitions coordinated within a single club. Summer League Major and Minor Leagues Club v Club competition is played within each age group (i.e. Under 12 (Little League), 14, 16 and 18). Clubs enter teams in the Major League (Premier competition) or Minor League (Regionalised and Graded competition). All Major and Minor League games are played on Sunday mornings commencing at 9.00am.

Tee Ball is a modified form of baseball played by boys and girls aged 5-10 years. A special ball and a tee is used to ensure that the children can learn the skills of the game in a safe and enjoyable environment without the pressures of the adult game. Active parent involvement and participation in the game is supported. Aussie T-Ball, the National Entry Level program for Australian Baseball, is an excellent start to team sports and provides an introduction to basic ball handling skills and hand-eye coordination skills. This takes place in a team environment which values the merits of the individual and participation over winning. An annual Aussie T-Ball Gala Day is conducted each February with teams participating from all Clubs running an Aussie T-Ball Program. All players receive a certificate of participation.
