The 2020 Charter Player Development Program (CPDP) will begin this Saturday, 1 February, with approximately 180 players across four charters taking the field. The 2020 CPDP encompasses Little League, Junior League and Intermediate League competitions.

Athletes were selected to CPDP squads following tryouts at the start of December. These players will train over eight weeks, led by dedicated charter coaches from Baycats, Eastern Athletics, Southern Mariners and Twins. The program will also will include two CPDP Lightning Premierships and All-Star team selection for the 2020 Charter State Championships.

Baseball Victoria Talent Development Manager Damian Shanahan says this will be an excellent opportunity for these young players to take their training to the next level with skills development and further practice.

“The Charter Player Development Program is designed to develop skills that scale so that these players have the right fundamentals to support an exciting future in baseball,” Shanahan said. “We will focus on teaching players how to be efficient in key movements such as hitting, throwing and fielding. This is the entry level into the Baseball Victoria Talent Development Pathway, and we are confident these charter players will continue to improve and gain new skills in the coming months.”

The 2020 CPDP will culminate in the 2020 Charter State Championships, with the Senior League, Junior League and Intermediate League Championships taking place from 28-30 March at Geelong. The Little League State Championships are set for the following weekend, 3-5 April at Knox.
